Blinken makes 'unannounced' stop at Iraq

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken visited the occupied West Bank to hold discussions with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as part of the Biden administration's efforts to alleviate the suffering of Gaza's civilians during the Israel-Hamas conflict. Blinken also traveled to Baghdad to meet with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to address the rise in attacks by Iranian-allied militias. The US is concerned about Iran and its proxy groups exploiting the situation in Gaza to further destabilize the region.
